The wines of the alpine coteaux \ Protected Geographical Indication

The Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) is an identification mark from the European Community created in 1992 as part of its quality policy on agricultural and food products. IGP names are protected throughout the European Union.
In France, the management of the official mark (adoption of specifications and control procedures in particular) is entrusted to the National Institute for Origin and Quality (INAO).
IGP was extended to wine (excluding spirits) on August 1st, 2009.
In order for a wine to obtain this official mark related to quality and origin (SIQO), all operations from harvesting to the end of the wine making process must be done in the given geographical area.
IGP can be based on the product's reputation - understood in the sense of a strong public recognition at a time - but should always be combined with expertise and a specific quality depending on the geographical origin.
IGP devotes an existing production and therefore confers protection on a national level but also international.
